New guidance has been issued by the Swiss Government for those over 65 to take a daily dose of vitamin D at 800iu.

The advice comes via an information leaflet – published by the Swiss Federal Food Safety & Veterinary Office – and is in line with recommendations from the International Alliance of Dietary and Food Supplement Associations (IADSA), whose Mind the Gap campaign promotes the benefits of dietary supplements.

We are pleased to see that Swiss Government recognizes the importance of vitamin D

Cynthia Rousselot, director or technical and regulatory affairs, IADSA, comments: “We are pleased to see that Swiss Government recognizes the importance of vitamin D and the role supplementation can play in ensuring that people consume enough of this essential nutrient. IADSA will continue to engage with policy makers and other stakeholders worldwide to raise awareness of the role of supplementation in increasing levels of health and wellbeing.”

The pamphlet – which targets elderly consumers and promotes supplementation of vitamin D to address and relieve ‘health problems associated with old age’ – also encourages regular outdoor exercise for exposure to natural sunlight.
