Jo Chidley, founder of ethical skincare brand Beauty Kitchen, has been named as the vice chair of the Sustainable Beauty Coalition’s (SBC) steering committee.
“It’s so motivating to see a unified committee of experts and representatives from various backgrounds in the beauty industry ready to collaborate and share knowledge,” says Chidley. “There’s a long way to go, but we have achieved a lot of momentum in a short space of time, and the launch of the Planet Positive Beauty Guide which was created to help consumers understand how to make greener beauty choices, has accelerated this.”
The SBC was formed in the summer of 2021 as one of the recommendations in the British Beauty Council’s Courage to Change sustainability report. It is comprised of industry experts, brand owners and industry body representatives from across the sector and chaired by Jayn Sterland, MD of Weleda UK.
she is both an inspiration and a human dynamo. Jo exudes energy, creativity and passion
Commenting on the appointment, Sterland says: “I am delighted the Sustainable Beauty Coalition has Jo Chidley as our vice chair. I have worked alongside Jo for the past six months through our work at the SBC and she is both an inspiration and a human dynamo. Jo exudes energy, creativity and passion. Through her company Beauty Kitchen, she is revolutionizing the way we sell beauty products and her ‘Repeat’ spin-off refillables initiative is challenging the standard model of how we distribute our products.
“Jo tirelessly works for our industry across circular design, packaging solutions, formulation and has again shown her leadership in sustainability with Beauty Kitchen gaining the highest score within our sector globally.”
