The Soil Association is creating an Organic Indie Retailer Map, which will go live on its website on Friday 16 June.
Any shop can sign up to appear on the map for free, providing they sell organic products. Shops can also specify exactly what types of organic products they carry in their summary, which is linked to the map.
The map, which will be updated regularly, will be searchable by postcode and will allow consumers to click on pins to see businesses information/websites.
“We have contact with a lot of independent retailers through our independent retailer newsletter and we thought it would be great if consumers had access to the broad range of businesses that we do,” says Alison Muirhead, Soil Association business development manager. “We found from our consumer research that access to organic products is still a big problem for many people, so if we can play a part in directing people to local businesses that carry organic products that seems very worthwhile. We plan to promote the map to consumers once it has launched.”
Retailers who want to be on the map need to provide details about the sorts of organic products they stock, their location, opening hours and a bit of background on their business.
