The British Beauty Council has launched an interactive recycling map on its website to help consumers more easily recycle empty beauty containers.
The move follows the statistic in the organization’s Courage to Change report that shows 56% of Brits don’t recycle bathroom waste such as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles because of confusing rules and regulations which differ from place to place.
Recycling is available for empty cosmetic and beauty products via some UK beauty retailers and the new interactive map collates the locations of recycling points to make it simple for consumers to find their local participating store – they just input their location and their closest beauty recycling points are shown.
Commenting on the move, British Beauty Council CEO Millie Kendall says: “We know from our Courage to Change report that 73% of UK consumers want to live more sustainably and 69% of consumers want to reduce their plastic consumption – the number one sustainability priority. And, with differing rules from borough to borough recycling correctly can be a challenge, which is why UK beauty retailers have created a solution to conveniently recycle your empties. But, the challenge is often locating your nearest one to you? Well, not any more, as the Sustainable Beauty Coalition has now launched their interactive database and map – simply input your postcode and it will give you the nearest beauty specific location that you can take your beauty empties to!”
The initial map features Holland & Barrett, the Estée Lauder Companies, the Body Shop, Superdrug and L’Occitane drop-off points, but the British Beauty Council wants more UK beauty businesses – including those offering recycling by post – to get involved in the initiative.
