First-time entrant Pure Vision Wines from Australia took the Free From Drink Product of The Year title for its alcohol-free Zero Shiraz 2021 at the Free From Food Awards 2023.
Pure Vision’s red was described by one judge as: “Possibly the best non-alcoholic red wine tasted to date. A real advancement in this space, with good tannins, great flavour and surprising complexity.”
London-based Borough 22’s virtually ‘allergen-free’ doughnut took home the title of Free From Food Product of the Year.
Containing only gluten-free oats among the declarable food allergens, Borough 22’s custard-filled delight was called an ‘absolutely knockout — the texture, taste, mouthfeel and overall flavour are all revelations’.
For the fourth successive year it was a tight contest between free-from heavyweights Tesco and Asda for the Retailer of the Year award, with Asda snatching back the title belt from Tesco, while the Co-op successfully defended its Convenience Retailer of the Year crown.
“We were thrilled this year, not only to receive a record number of entries, but also to see new categories, such as Keto, Meal Kits, and International Recognition, perform so well, with innovation galore,” comments Awards’ CEO, Cressida Langlands.
The special Free From Hero Award was presented to a team of allergy clinicians at St George’s Hospital in London for work on a project donating allergy bags to local schools and allergic pupils. The team supplies 140 schools with kits containing allergy medication, including auto adrenalin injectors (AAIs).
