Snacking start-up Pukpip says it is on a mission to help consumers eat more fruit in ‘fun, delicious and convenient ways’, kicking off with Real Frozen Bananas Dipped in Chocolate.

Pukpip upcycles bananas which are responsibly sourced from Ecuador that would otherwise go to waste – bananas which have been rejected from export due to small imperfections or because they’re the wrong shape or size. These are then peeled, dipped and frozen, with the leftover skins upcycled back into the ecosystem.

The frozen bananas are available in sustainably sourced Great Taste Award-winning milk chocolate or certified vegan dark chocolate, with a white chocolate version on its way, and come in at 161 calories or under.

Positioned as ‘nature’s alternative to ice cream’, Real Frozen Bananas Dipped in Chocolate are designed to offer an indulgent fruit snack or dessert and are aimed ‘squarely at the millennial female’ looking for healthier snacks and desserts for themselves and their families.

“We know consumers are increasingly health conscious and actively looking for ways to improve their diet,” says Pukpip MD, Zara Gugen. “Market research has shown that nine in ten consumers want to eat more fruit and veg. But with the demands of modern life, it’s not easy to always eat well, get your 5-a-day and enjoy great taste.

“With tighter HFSS regulation we’re also giving retailers more opportunities to stock healthier, HFSS-compliant options for consumers which still prioritize taste. We want to give consumers the best of both worlds; an easy way to enjoy more fruit and indulge in a permissible chocolate treat, enabling them to feel good about their choices.”
