Whole Food Markets will open the doors of its new 20,000 sq ft store in Richmond, south west London, tomorrow (Tuesday 8 October).
The smaller format Whole Foods store – billed by the retailer as “small and mighty” – sets out to be a “one-stop shop for everyday essentials, from freshly baked breads to meats, cheeses – and a full range of general groceries, as hard find food items not sold in ordinary food retailers”.
Earlier this year, Whole Foods founder John Mackey told The Grocer that the UK market wasn’t right for the 40,000 sq ft stores the company operates across America. But he insisted the business would continue to invest in the UK.
The Richmond opening brings Whole Foods’ UK store portfolio to eight – six London stores, one in Glasgow and another in Cheltenham.
