“There’s no doubt about it: The recession is over for shoppers who buy organic.” That’s the upbeat analysis from top US trade mag Natural Food Merchandiser.

The magazine reports that for the second straight year US organic industry saw almost 10 percent growth. It adds that  industry experts are predicting this growth pattern will continue into 2013.

The Organic Trade Association’s latest Organic Industry Survey shows that organic sales rose 9.55 in 2011 (compared to 9.7% in 2010). This figure is mirrored by findings from  market survey company SPINS, which reports that organic retail sales grew 9.5%. The same report showed that specialist natural food retailers edged supermarkets, recording 9.8% and 9.4% growth respectively.
