The Soil Association today published The Road to 2020, its “refreshed” strategy document setting out priorities for the next five years.

The organic charity says it wants to “build on past successes” and explain where it will focus its efforts over the coming years.

The new strategy is based around two key themes: ‘facing the future’ and ‘good food for all’. ‘Facing the Future’, will aim to promote solutions that meet the needs of people for healthy food, fuel and fibre while protecting the natural world. In line with this ambition the Soil Association says that  organisation there will be “a new emphasis on innovation, to ensure that we can quickly and effectively interpret and translate research into practice and polic”.

The second major theme ‘Good Food for All’, sets out to ensure that organic, seasonal, healthy food is accessible to everyone, especially those who will most benefit from the most nutritious diet.

These two themes are supported by an underpinning commitment to ‘Enabling Change’  — as the Soil Association puts it: “Making the most of the fact that we represent those who deliver real change”.

The charity says its future advocacy and policy work will be “inspired by the pioneering work of the businesses and community initiatives in the Soil Association network”. It says it expects to finalise its plans in detail over the next few months, after consulting with “friends, colleagues and partner organisations”
