For the first time protein powders have made it onto the Office of National Statistics’ ‘basket of goods and services’, used to measure the UK rate of inflation.

Multivitamins were already included, but the ONS has added protein powders in “recognition of the growing numbers of people using sports supplements, especially gym goers”.

Also added to the prices basket this year are E-cigarettes, craft beers and the cost music streaming services, like Spotify. But DVDs, sat navs and frozen pizza drop off the list in this year’s revision.
