M&S ramps up Plan A with ‘living wall’ installation

Marks & Spencer has included a ‘green living wall’ feature as part of its new eco store in Newcastle.

The beefed up eco credentials of the revamped Newcastle store are part of M&S’s ‘Plan A’ green and ethical initiative, by which it aims to become “the world’s most sustainable retailer”.

The 167 square metre green wall is constructed from nearly 16,000 individual plants and is designed to encouragre biodiversity, offering a source of nectar for bees and butterflies and seeds for birds. A rooftop rainwater harvesting system will irrigate the wall.
