A new website and blog is now up and running to help the thousands affected by the current epidemic of sensitivity to the preservative methylisothiazolinone (MI).
MI-Free.com is edited by health journalist and author Alex Gazzola, who specializes in allergies, intolerances and sensitivities.
“People diagnosed with allergy to MI are typically told to avoid the ingredient, and sent on their way,” comments Gazzola. “But it’s not always easy to spot among cosmetic ingredients lists, and some household products – such as laundry detergents and fabric softeners – are difficult to find in MI-free versions. Certain products, such as paints, aren’t required to be labelled as containing MI either. It’s a minefield.”
An increasing number of people experience inflammation and rashes on the skin when they come into contact with MI, which is contained in many cosmetics, wet wipes, household cleaning products, paints, varnishes and air fresheners.
The new online resource includes directories of safe brands and products, research news, reviews, and information on labelling laws and product launches – in the UK, US, Canada and further afield.
