Healthy hampers are proving to the big hit of Christmas 2014 for food retailers, reports The Observer.

Planet Organic is offering a range of health-angled Christmas hampers and boxers (including the Caveman Box, the Ultimate Raw Foodist and Inner Samurai) at prices ranging from £25 to £200. Whole Foods Market’s Healthy and Fit hamper (at £90) contains – among other things – magnesium flakes, hemp protein, vitamin C supplements and a yoga mat.

But isn’t just natural and organic specialists like Planet Organic and Whole Food Markets riding the trend for ‘less chocs,  more quinoa’ – delis and cafés are getting in on the act. Retreat Café’s gluten-free hamper and Primrose Kitchen’s ‘eco-friendly Healthy Hamper’ each get a name-check.

Chinza-Lee Sonami tells The Observer that the popularity of healthier hamper this Christmas is part “the growing crossover between health and food that we’re seeing”.
