Hanover Healthfoods in Edinburgh has been named Specialist Retailer of the Year at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2018.

“We were really wowed to win this award on Tuesday,” owner John McKee told NPN. “Since we expanded the shop in 2016 we have not looked back. The staff have been fantastic and we have been blessed with constant growth for the last 18 months.

“The atmosphere in the business is really positive and I hope we can keep that going. We are much more in tune with our customers than ever and it feels like a real partnership.

“Personally, it is a great pat on the back. Buying the business after running it for so long happened in the blink of an eye. I didn’t actually have a plan as to what I wanted to do to grow the business. Everything just happened instinctively. And it is paying off.”

The award was presented at a black tie event in Glasgow, hosted by award-winning radio presenter, Gina McKie, which saw over 300 guests celebrate the Scottish retail industry.

The awards aim to highlight the value of independent retailers and recognize and rewarding the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, which lies behind the thriving industry.
