E-commerce platform Dayrize – which plans to build the largest consumer marketplace for sustainable products – has fully launched to democratize sustainable shopping and help consumers avoid greenwashing.

The marketplace enables shoppers to clearly understand if the products they buy are non-hazardous, responsibly sourced, fully recyclable and regenerative through a product score of 1-100, thus helping them reduce their footprint by making better and informed purchasing decisions.

The site is initially focusing on Health & Beauty – body care, skincare, cosmetics, personal hygiene and supplements; homewares; and men’s and women’s fashion. Brands signed up so far include Beauty Kitchen, King of Shaves, Delphis Eco, Comfort Zone, Aromatherapy Shed and Simply Soaps. Eventually Dayrize aims to offer everything needed to live sustainably – from food to furniture.

We’ve done the rigorous legwork
of building a ground-breaking standard that simplifies and democratises sustainable shopping

The hard launch follows research by the platform revealing that of the 2,000 people surveyed 74% say the main reason for not shopping sustainably is because they think it’s too difficult, with 46% struggling to define what is and isn’t sustainable, and 33% arguing it was too difficult to find sustainable products. 60% said they would shop sustainably if products were regulated with clear sustainability labelling.

“Most people have the intention to shop sustainably but have sadly been underserved by the confusing process of assessing the true impact their purchase has on the planet,” says Dayrize co-founder Eva Gladek. “We created Dayrize to make the process of assessing the sustainability of a product accurate and easy to understand for the average consumer. We’ve done the rigorous legwork of building a ground-breaking standard that simplifies and democratises sustainable shopping. We hope people can begin to see how making small changes in their purchasing habits can add up to huge differences for our planet.”

Dayrize’s scoring technology uses a systematic life cycle approach so consumers can compare the true sustainability credentials of each product, while also ensuring every vendor on the site is fully transparent about their sustainability credentials.

The scoring system, developed by a team of scientists, evaluates five key factors across the entire product cycle to provide a holistic assessment of sustainability performance:

  • Circularity: how well a product minimizes waste by reusing and recycling resources to create a closed-loop system
  • Climate Impact: how greenhouse gas-intensive production is
  • Ecosystem Impact: the product’s impact on biodiversity and water depletion
  • Livelihoods and Wellbeing: how a product impacts the health and wellbeing of the people involved in creating it
  • Purpose: the value a product provides and the potential it has to be an accelerator for good

Dayrize will reinvest 5% of its annual profits to support its brand partners in redesigning their products and practices to become more sustainable.
