Europe’s largest fair trade company Traidcraft has announced the appointment of Robin Roth as its new chief executive.

Roth will leave Germany-based GEPA, where he is currently MD, to take up the role at Traidcraft in October. He will be responsible for both the trading company Traidcraft plc and the charity Traidcraft Exchange.

Commenting on his appointment, Roth said: “Traidcraft is an amazing, pioneering organization with a very clear and straightforward mission – to fight poverty through trade. I very much look forward to joining a strong and dedicated team who are committed to transforming lives across the world.”

Traidcraft’s interim chief executive Andy Biggs will remain with the organisation as chief operating officer, and will work alongside Roth.

“I am delighted that Robin has agreed to join Traidcraft,” commented Ram Gidoomal CBE, Traidcraft chair. “His substantial experience and strong track record in the fair trade arena make him the ideal person to lead an organisation with such incredible potential and ambition. I am confident he can build on the momentum achieved by the team under Andy’s leadership. We seek to be even more of a force for change in some of the world’s poorest countries, and Robin will help us achieve that.”
