Online sports nutrition brand The Protein Works has been acquired by sports nutrition specialist Sport-ph.
The Protein Works was founded in 2012 and has since become the second largest online sports nutrition brand with a social reach of over three million. Founders Mark Coxhead, Karl Jacobie and Nick Smith will become shareholders and board members of the newly extended company.
“We are thrilled by the deal which unlocks opportunities for the brand, both in the UK and Internationally and will greatly benefit our customers,” says Coxhead. “We have been highly innovative in the sector, launching over 100 new products in the last year alone, including the UK’s first in-house protein bakery. The additional resources from Sport-ph will take The Protein Works to a whole new level. Sport-ph shares our vision for what we have always intended The Protein Works to represent as a customer-focused category leader and innovator.”
Sport-ph CEO Seb Mullin adds: “The addition of The Protein Works to the portfolio brings together two complementary and differentiated brands, focused on growing the sports nutrition market with innovation and investment. Our previous acquisition of leading brand PhD will, together with The Protein Works, enable us to accelerate our vision for growth whilst allowing the independent and individual businesses to preserve their entrepreneurial passion. The Protein Works has an impressive state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and leading-edge new product development technology. We are excited by the opportunities for category development, leadership and commercial growth as a result of this merger.
