Pukka Herbs has been awarded a 2degrees Sustainable Business Award for its supply chain management.

The awards celebrate companies and individuals who push the boundaries of sustainable business, and Pukka has been recognised for encouraging its supply chain to adopt the FairWild Standard, a benchmark which aims to conserve threatened and potentially vulnerable plant populations, protect local ecosystems and sustain the livelihoods of collector communities.

Pukka is actively involved in ensuring suppliers meet the requirements for FairWild certification, visiting herb collectors and their plots, providing training and fund allocations for improving harvesting practices.

“I’m hugely proud that we’ve been acknowledged by our peers for our sustainable business efforts,” said Pukka co-founder, Tim Westwell. “At Pukka we have taken a number of steps to protect vulnerable herb species that we use in our products, but it’s just as important for us that our suppliers subscribe to the same FairWild Standard.”

Pukka buys over 56 tonnes of FairWild certified liquorice from Spain and Kazakhstan every year and also has FairWild projects in Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary where they source lime flowers, elderflowers and nettles.
