Durham-based Natural Nutrients has launched a low-sugar Protein Popcorn, with each 100g serving containing at least 13g of protein.

The high fibre popcorn is created by air popping high quality corn kernels and coating them with organic virgin coconut oil. It is then coated in Natural Nutrients’ natural whey protein or faba bean protein powder before being flavoured with natural ingredients to give it its real food flavours. The varieties are Simply Salted, Sweet Vanilla and Kale, Tomato & Chilli.

“We’ve already built up a loyal following of customers who appreciate our range of all natural, clean label protein powders and nutritional supplements,” says brand MD Liam Sherriff. “When we looked at the snack food market, however – especially popcorn – we realized that growth in that sector was largely dominated with wild and wonderful flavours, but no one had successfully added protein to popcorn with the nutrition claims ours boasts. Whilst some other popcorn products taste great, the taste is often achieved by higher amounts of sugar, unhealthy fats and salt. With our Protein Popcorn we hope to change that.”

He adds: “The main goal for this product is the high street retailer, so we’re always keen to hear from people wanting to become stockists. We’re officially launching it at Natural & Organic Products Europe in London in April. We’ve found the Protein Popcorn is popular with both customers interested in fitness as well as those just looking to follow a healthy diet and want a healthier, more satisfying snack.”
