New natural feminine care brand FLO has hit UK shelves with the aim of offering affordable, healthier, eco-friendly menstrual products.
The Hackney-based start-up was founded by Tara Priya Chandra and Susan Allen after they had difficulty finding organic cotton tampons in London.
FLO tampons are made in the EU from certified organic, 100% cotton tampons and feature soft compact applicators. They are biodegradable, hypoallergenic and free from fragrances and dyes.
The tampons are packed in bright biodegradable ice cream tubs for high shelf appeal.
Commenting on the launch, Chandra says: “Susan and I were missing a high quality product that was accessible in multiple ways: distribution, price, design and brand. Femcare that was comfortable and cute yet still better for our bodies and the planet than ‘corporate’ femcare. A product and a brand that we could trust and feel comfortable with without ‘greenwashing’ or medical or minimalist design.
“It may sound silly, but we genuinely wanted to create a bright, fun brand that had a voice like a girlfriend – like, ‘Hello gorgeous! Your period has arrived – that sucks! Here are some adorable, healthy & eco-friendly products to get you through it’.”
FLO donates 5% of its profits to charities supporting the health, education and empowerment of girls in need. It also provides sanitary products to community homeless shelters and women who can’t afford them via the London charity Bloody Good Period.
