Irish health food company Chia Bia has become the first European business to secure Novel Food Act approval for Chia Oil capsules.
The supplement offers a sustainable and vegan alternative to omega-3 fish oils is produced by cold-pressing chia seeds and encasing in a vegan-friendly capsule, and boasts a neutral flavour and aftertaste.
“We’re delighted to have been given the green light to bring this latest chia-based innovation to market – and further bolster our commitment to meeting growing consumer demand for a wide variety of natural, plant-based and convenient options that offer a tangible health benefit,” said Stephen Butler, sales director at Chia Bia.
“Each serving of Chia Oil capsules delivers 1,200mg of omega-3 ALA, which contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels and supports a healthy heart. Chia Oil also helps to boost memory and concentration levels, and is known to improve brain health – all while avoiding the fishy smell and aftertaste so often associated with fish oils,” he added.
“Couple this with the undeniable growth of plant-based eating over the past couple of years – a topic that’s trickling more and more into the mainstream from both a health and environmental point of view – and the sales potential for a 100% vegan and sustainable source of omega-3 amongst vitamin and supplement shoppers across the UK is palpable,” Butler concludes.
The launch will be backed by a national consumer PR campaign highlighting the health benefits and neutral taste of the product.
