Sourcerie is on a mission to put the ‘personal’ back into shopping with the launch of its ‘radically personalized’, community-powered marketplace for all things beauty and self-care.
Powered by a recommendation engine based on hundreds of thousands of user reviews, Sourcerie matches brands and products against over three billion distinct user profiles to find the best possible products or routines for every individual.
The platform considers factors including skin type, skin sensitivity, goals, age, skin tone, and conditions such as rosacea, acne, melasma and dandruff, and offers a wide portfolio of natural names including Pai Skincare, Evolve beauty, Eminence, Kiehl’s and Faace, with new brands and retailers continually being added.
Sourcerie was co-founded by Kristin Cardwell and Alex Beyer, both eczema sufferers, who were motivated by their own skincare struggles.
“The beauty industry has become difficult for consumers to navigate, with niche products and brands launching almost daily,” explains Cardwell. “The number of available brands, products, and active ingredients used has grown exponentially over the last few years. Nearly 60% of consumers have had an adverse reaction to a product at some point in time, and over seven in ten report they are dissatisfied with their current products. We saw a real need for objective, data-driven personalization, based on the trusted experiences of others.”

As well as providing tailored brand and product suggestions, Sourcerie also offers sound expert knowledge, routines and advice for different skin needs, from soothing sensitive skin to supporting mature skin, as well as curating for more specific genres such as self-care and sustainability.
“Beauty is a massive market, but is falling behind when it comes to tech, and personalizing for beauty has so much more nuance that can only really be captured by scaling community input,” says Beyer. “The data platform and software we’re building with Sourcerie has so many potential uses for the broader industry, and we’re already in discussions with many of our brand and retailer supplier partners about further potential applications that they can use and take advantage of. We’re so excited to be pioneering innovation for the UK beauty tech industry and beyond.
“We’re constantly improving and updating how we personalize the user experience, based on what our customers need, from addressing routine-based education, to new life moments that affect how we care for our skin and hair. Our vision is for Sourcerie to be the trusted go-to for shopping your beauty routine, and ultimately the platform for every decision in beauty and personal care.”
