The global natural and organic cosmetics market is expected to approach USD 14 billion in 2024, as revealed by new research from Ecovia Intelligence. Market growth is rebounding following a slowdown caused by the pandemic and geopolitical challenges.
North America and Europe dominate the market, accounting for over 80% of total sales. The U.S. leads with natural and organic products making up 4.7% of the country’s total cosmetic sales. However, the most rapid growth is happening in Asia, driven by new product launches. Both established brands and new entrants are fuelling the market with innovative offerings in the natural and organic space.
Certification is gaining importance in this industry, with over 30 standards globally. The most prominent certifications, COSMOS and NATRUE are the most important, with the highest adoption rates in Europe. France and Germany have the highest share of certified products. Globally, certified products represent around 26% of all natural and organic cosmetics sales.
Ecovia Intelligence forecasts that market growth will continue in the coming years, driven by increased consumer awareness of the health risks associated with synthetic chemicals like parabens and mineral oils. This heightened awareness is prompting more consumers to opt for natural and organic alternatives.
In addition to rising consumer demand, expanding distribution channels are also contributing to market growth. While natural and organic food retailers remain primary outlets, the presence of these products is increasing in pharmacies, drugstores, department stores, and beauty retailers. Some brands are also exploring non-retail channels such as hair salons and beauty centres to broaden their reach.
