In a global first, plant-based biotech beauty brand Codex Beauty Labs is introducing on-pack ‘efficacy panels’ to display quantifiable data on each product’s ability to address various skin concerns, thus enabling consumers to make ‘fact-based decisions in purchasing functional products’.
Every Codex product will display efficacy results – from hydration and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) to smoothness, firmness and density – on the side of the packaging on an easy to read panel which will show results for 28 days of using the product, 56 days and 84 days. This, says the brand, will enable customers to justify product claims with quantitative data and make informed decisions on what product is right for their skin.
Customers should expect every brand to justify its product claims with quantitative data in order to objectively compare product performance and price
Each panel also summarizes the year of the study and the population used, as well as each skin parameter, potential sub-parameter and its measurement method.
“We believe that by publishing our data, we can establish a new reference point for both consumers and the beauty industry,” explains the brand’s founder and CEO Barbara Paldus. “Customers should expect every brand to justify its product claims with quantitative data in order to objectively compare product performance and price.
“Such an efficacy panel can effectively level the playing field in the industry, as well as eliminate confusion about ingredient potency versus actual ingredient benefits in a final formulation. It also allows customers to make educated decisions based on proven product performance for their skincare routines, and well-informed value purchasing decisions based on facts rather than marketing jargon.”
