Viridian Nutrition has created what it calls a potent immune-booster in the form of its new Organic Elderberry Extract + Vit C, designed to aid in recovery from colds and flu.

The liquid supplement features Austrian elderberry extract — standardized to oligo-proanthocyanidins (OPCs) to guarantee the required amount of active compound, says the brand — combined with vitamin C-rich Brazilian acerola cherries.

“Elderberry is a highly researched berry in regard to the immune system, with clinical studies demonstrating that elderberry extract standardised to OPC content is effective in dramatically reducing the symptoms and duration of colds and flu,” says Viridian technical director Aimée Benbow.

“Elderberry works against cold and flu by stimulating a non-specific immune response, it gently initiates sweating during a fever and regulates temperature control which helps to resolve infection more quickly. Additionally, elderberry has proven to be useful by improving the functioning of the mucous membranes to help clear catarrh from the ears, nose and throat.

“Viridian’s Organic Elderberry Extract provides the equivalent of 12.8g of elderberry per teaspoon; this supplement is one of the strongest formulas available, supplying a therapeutic, standardized dose of elderberry per adult serve.”

Suitable for the whole family, the product is free from any added flavourings, additives, artificial preservatives, colours, sweeteners or sugar. It is certified organic by the Soil Association.
