A shocking 60% of Brits are struggling with gut health problems, according to ethical nutrition and supplement brand DR.VEGAN®. In response, the company has launched the bold ‘Gut Punch’ campaign to raise awareness and provide consumers with the knowledge and tools needed to improve their gut health.
The campaign, which includes striking creative visuals and an educational online hub, is designed to highlight the severity of gut health issues in the UK. A key element features a fist in intestine form—a dramatic representation of the problem—rolled out across London to capture public attention and spark discussion.
Speaking on the campaign, DR.VEGAN co-founder, Gordon Lott, explains: “Modern diets are packed with ultra-processed, high fat, sugary and salty foods, contributing to record levels of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal conditions, poor sleep, chronic stress, and more.
Our gut is the control centre for our physical and mental health, our daily wellbeing and our weight, yet education on how to create and support a healthy gut is shockingly poor. In fact, it’s completely absent from our education and healthcare systems, and we want to change that.”
A recent DR.VEGAN survey of 300 people found that nearly nine in ten (86%) believe GPs should be trained in nutrition, and 89% expect them to offer personalised nutrition advice as an alternative to medication. However, most GPs receive less than two days of nutrition training during medical school and are not qualified to provide personalised dietary guidance unless they have undergone specialist training.
An interactive hub for gut health education
To bridge this knowledge gap, DR.VEGAN has created an interactive ‘Gut Health’ online hub. This resource aims to educate consumers on the importance of gut health and provide practical advice on improving it. The hub covers a range of topics, including:
- The gut’s vital role in overall health
- Signs of poor gut health
- The impact of diet on gut function
- Understanding different types of bowel movements and their health implications
- The benefits of targeted probiotics
Shona Wilkinson, a registered nutritionist at DR.VEGAN, emphasises the far-reaching impact of gut health: “Gut health is responsible for 70% of the immune system, and directly influences life expectancy, mood, energy, sleep, physical wellbeing, skin, hair and much more.
“While we are still learning more and more everyday from new research, we know that alongside hormones, the foods we eat have the biggest impact on the health of our gut microbiome.”
In addition to educational resources, DR.VEGAN offers a range of award-winning gut health supplements, including Gut Works®, Debloat & Detox, and Fibre Complex. The brand remains committed to inspiring and educating consumers about the importance of diet, lifestyle, and supplementation in maintaining good health.
