Verdino Green Foods is launching Unfished, a new range of frozen fish alternatives – which it says is the most diversified plant-based fish portfolio currently available – into the UK market at the end of November.
The brand says that Unfished covers all the big seafood segments, such as tuna, salmon and smoked salmon, as well as white fish and breaded fish, and are produced using pea, rice and fava bean proteins.
“While our business is rooted in pea protein as our core protein base our Unfished products also use rice and fava bean proteins,” says Verdino founder Raul Ciurtin. “As with plant-based meat, most of the sustainability gains come from the food. It is simply more sustainable to create food from plants as opposed to animals, and the rapid growth in consumer interest in all parts of plant-based demonstrates that they understand this.”
There is a massive opportunity for Unfished to explode into the UK market
The UK retail offer comprises: PlantZalmon Poke Cubes, PlanTuna Poke Cubes 200g, PlantZalmon Fillet, PlantFish White Fillet, PlantFish Breaded Sticks, PlantFish Breaded Fillets, PlantZalmon Smoked Slices, PlanTuna Flakes, PlanTuna Sashimi Block.
“Unfished offers the retail industry a unique range of plant-based fish alternative products, from salmon slices to sashimi to fillets,” Ciurtin adds. “There is a massive opportunity for Unfished to explode into the UK market, due to the fast growing, but unfilled, demand for fish alternatives. Unfished products have been developed to allow consumers to enjoy plant-based meals easily and conveniently, in all their favourite meals, without any compromise on taste and texture.
“The retail demand is there for quality products that deliver on these important points, and Unfished is here to meet it. We know that product innovation previously exploded plant-based meat and dairy alternatives, and people have been waiting for the same thing to happen with fish alternatives.”
