UK organic spelt producer Sharpham Park has made a significant investment in its spelt mill, located on its Somerset farm.
The mill has seen its capacity soar over the last ten years, says the company, and as a result the cash injection was needed to ensure continued high quality milling to meet predicted growth.
Sharpham Park founder Roger Saul (pictured) says: “We are investing in excess of £50,000 in the mill’s grain cleaning and aspiration system which will ensure that our flour continues to be of the highest quality possible as well as helping us to significantly reduce our waste levels. Our mill output has quadrupled over the last ten years and this investment will allow us to continue to grow productivity at the mill.

“As a result of the current industry trends for plant-based foods, vegetarianism and veganism, as well as consumers choosing spelt for its health benefits, we are seeing a significant increase in demand for spelt from our stockists. Due to the more favourable exchange rates we’re finding our export sales are growing much faster than predicted and this investment will put us ahead of the game and make sure we’re ready to meet future milling challenges.”
Sharpham Park offers a number of spelt-based products including flours, cereals and grains.
