Romania will be the Country of the Year at the 2013 Biofach event in Nuremberg (13-16 February).
Country of the Year focus at the world’s biggest organic event reflects the growing engagement with organic among central and eastern European counties – Romania saw the number of certified organic operators in the country triple between 2009 and 2011.
In 2012 43,000 visitors from 130 countries visited the show to take a first-hand look at thousands of new organic products being shown by 2,420 exhibitors.
One of the major elements of the four-day event is the Biofach Congress, which in 2013 has the theme ‘Share Values: Action for a Future World’. Exhibition director Udo Funke comments: “The Congress is a valuable platform for the exchange of information and knowledge and a stage for major announcements and developments – for example the signing of the EU-US organic equivalency agreement at the the 1012 event (pictured)”
Launched in 2012, The Fish Market is a new feature for certified and sustainable fish and fish products – it’s expected to attract even more interest in 2013. The Breeze zone – a special home for “young labels and upcoming concepts” will also be back in 2013 as will the popular Coffee Tasting station, where professional baristas prepared 20 different espresso coffees for show visitors to try.
